Sandpiper Brooch

A slender, slightly downturned bill and a lean, long-legged profile give away the sandpiper right away inside its gold-tone frame. The photo-etched brass uses fine hatching along the back and wings to mimic the mottled plumage these shorebirds rely on for camouflage along damp mudflats. I think the light, open etching catches the bird's quick, probing habit on the beach remarkably well.
