Manatee in Coral

Mike Warner captured the West Indian manatee's dense, paddle-tailed silhouette by placing its smooth body against a deeply textured backdrop of photo-etched coral. A tiny fish sways from a lower ring beneath the main gold-tone frame, giving the otherwise still underwater scene a bit of natural motion. I particularly like how the fine etching distinguishes the porous reef structure from the sleek marine mammal swimming past it.
